The Wilson Center is one of the three special institutions created by congressional statute to perform a national mission in affiliation with the Smithsonian Institution. It is governed by its own presidentially appointed Board of Trustees and supported by public and private funds. The Center conducts and sponsors original scholarship and convenes balanced and inclusive dialogue through its programs, which cover all regions of the world and several major global issues.
Duties
The Asia Program performs two broad functions for the overall Wilson Center mission. First, it encourages policy-relevant scholarship and brings together key stakeholders from policy, academia, the media, business, and civil society together to address the most pressing political, social, and economic issues affecting Asia and U.S. relations with the region through seminars, workshops, and briefings featuring prominent scholars and policymakers from America and beyond. Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Selective Placement Factor: Language fluency at a professional level (Read/Write/Speak) in one of the region’s major languages in order to communicate with high level officials and academics in and from Asia/Pacific region.
Must have at least one full-time year (12-months) of specialized work experience at, or equivalent to, the IS-14 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience includes:
Providing strategic leadership and developing public programming in the field of Asian studies and U.S. policy designed to improve understanding about the Asia/Pacific region;
Field experience in the Asia/Pacific region;
Researching, publishing and speaking about issues related to the Asia/Pacific region;
Securing and managing financial resources from outside organizations and individuals to fund staff and programmatic/outreach activities related to the Asia/Pacific region;
Supervising staff and preforming tasks such as performance reviews, conflict resolution, and corrective actions

One year of specialized experience is equivalent to 12 months at 40 hours per week. Part-time hours are prorated. You will not receive any credit for experience that does not indicate exact hours per week or is listed as "varies".
