You will serve as a TECHNICIAN supporting the Potomac River Test Ranges in the Range Operations Branch (E44), Test and Evaluation Division (E40); Integrated Engagement Systems Department of NAVSURFWARCENDLD.
This position is part of the Warfare Centers Personnel Demonstration Project. NT-04 is equivalent to GS-11/12. NT-05 is equivalent to GS-13/14.
The NT-05 is salary capped GS-13 Step 10 (currently $145,617). See "Additional Information" section.
Duties
You will serve as a Potomac River Test Range technician responsible to assemble, handle, and test various ordnance items and components.
You will provide coaching, mentoring, guidance, and oversight to range and instrumentation technicians, particularly for building propellant charges and powder room operations.
You will be responsible for all aspects of explosives safety, RDT and E execution and meeting requirements during explosives and non-explosive operations.
You will conduct technical/safety reviews of explosives safety documentation both individually and as a member of a review panel or team.
You will provide ordnance safety mentorship and guidance to all levels of personnel throughout the division.
You will perform all aspects of the explosives safety qualification and certification program including handling, receipt, storage, instrumentation, and arm/fire.
You will provide test and evaluation subject matter expertise for ordnance and explosive builds in support of executing RDT and E operations.
You will provide technical guidance as the Gun Barrel Subject Matter Expert with regards to inspections and maintenance.
You will lead or conduct inspections of shipboard gun barrels for Naval fleet support, read and provide drawings and schematics for gun systems and components, and maintain all gun barrel inspection equipment and records.

- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
Qualifications
FOR THE NT-05: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the NT-04 (GS-11/12 equivalent) pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector coordinating or conducting engineering technical work for the assembly, inspection, test & evaluation, or troubleshooting of gun weapon systems or gun weapon systems ordnance. Examples of specialized experience may include: overseeing or conducting ordnance and explosive-builds (propellant/powder/primers); inspecting shipboard gun barrels for Naval fleet and providing guidance based on the results; interpreting drawings/schematics for gun systems and components; maintaining gun barrel inspection equipment and records.
FOR THE NT-04: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the NT-03 (GS-09/10 equivalent) pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector conducting engineering technical work to assemble, handle, or test ordnance items or their components.
