This position is located in the Laundry Section of Environmental Management Service at the Veterans Healthcare System of the Ozarks in Fayetteville, Arkansas. The employee will process hospital linens, employee uniforms and patient wearing apparel on a timely basis to meet general production schedules.
Duties
Major duties and responsibilities include:
Receiving all laundry items collected from the medical center.
Sorting items received into washing classifications based on fabric content, color, and degree of soil or stains.
Taking into account special processing items, such as, pillows, wool blankets, and surgery and isolation linen.
Ensuring that all soiled laundry and equipment are kept physically separate from the clean laundry side of the building.
Weighing the wash classifications and recording the weight recorded in the production records.
Processing the wash classification through the washroom equipment, which consists of 90 lbs., 200 lbs., and two 400 lbs. dry weight capacity pass-through washer/extractors.
Ensuring the washer-extractors are loaded according to their rated capacity and that the loads are equally balanced between the wash pockets.
Selecting the correct pre-determined wash formula to process the load in order to meet quality control standards.
Ensuring appropriate levels are available within the dispensing system prior to the wash cycle and filling if necessary.
Using special stain removing chemicals and procedures to remove stains from laundry items.
Ensuring that laundry is processed in order of priority needed or according to the general production schedule.
Unloading the pass-through washer/extractor into laundry bags and sending the wet wash to other processing departments within the laundry plant.
Loading and unloading commercial dryer/tumblers and ensuring that correct time and temperature settings are used for the load being processed.
Maintaining the general cleanliness of the washroom at all times and assisting with the general housekeeping in the clean side of the building.
Assisting where needed on clean side of laundry, as time permits or when a rush special order is received from user units.
Performing other related duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm

Qualifications
PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK CONDITIONS: The employee needs physical ability for accomplishment of heavy physical tasks for extended periods. Physical demands include pushing heavy carts; lifting loads of over 50 lbs.; pulling wet wash from washer/extractor and continual bending, stooping, walking and standing on concrete floors. Working conditions include machinery noise; hot and humid atmosphere; offensive odors while sorting and washing soiled linen, which is contaminated with infectious organisms and having wet clothing and shoes while pulling laundry loads. Incumbent is subjected to the possibility of minor cutes, scrapes, bruises and needle wounds.
