Duties

Disassemble and inspect dental supplies, instruments and equipment. Select appropriate methods for sterilizing, balancing time constraints with possible detrimental effects of quicker methods. Troubleshoot and explain the proper use of the equipment and obtains needed repairs. Store items in such a way as to preserve the sterile condition. Monitor patients to detect signs of shock or reactions to treatment.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to applicant testing and random drug testing. Applicants with verified positive test results shall be refused employment.
  • Incumbent will be required to receive seasonal influenza immunization.
  • Employee must possess and maintain an American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate of training.
  • Uniform will be required.
  • Must be certified as a radiographer and have successfully completed an educational program that meets or exceeds the standards described in 42 CFR Part 75.
  • Ear protection may be required.
  • Temporary Duty Travel (TDY) may be required up to 5%.
  • Pre-employment physical may be required

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes sterilizing and preparing a full range of medical or dental supplies and equipment used in a clinical setting OR assisting in general dental procedures such as providing chair side assistance to a dentist. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04). OR Education: Four year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with a major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position, such as, Dental Assistant. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages. Licensure/Certification: Public Law 97-35 requires that persons who administer radiologic procedures meet specific credentialing standards of 42 CFR Part 75. They must (1) have successfully completed an educational program that meets or exceeds the standards described in 42 CFR Part 75, and is accredited by an organization recognized by the Department of Education, and (2) be certified as a radiographer in their field.
