Duties

Serves as Director of the Recreation Branch. Develops, maintains, plans, and administers Recreation programs, special events, activities, and facilities. Some facilities and programs are seasonal, thereby, requiring a coordination of venues. Performs as project manager for special one-time assignments as directed by the Chief, Community Recreation (CCR). Manages and develops plans for Recreational Programs. Plans and coordinates activities, special events, and community undertakings such as, but not limited to: Hosting major athletic events, sports tournaments, open houses, grand openings, soldier appreciation day and summer task force troop support. Schedules and publicizes, in a timely manner, all community recreation events with continual concern for community interests and needs. Coordinates all recreation programs with other activities. Budgets for equipment, supplies, and services with appropriated (APF), nonappropriated (NAF), and other funding needed to accomplish scheduled recreation activities. Develops administrative safeguards to protect funds, equipment, and property. Updates security, funds, and operational SOPs as needed. Accounts for all funds involved in recreational programs. Develops annual budget requirements with supporting data for inclusion in the CRD budget. Evaluates the effectiveness of ongoing recreation programs from participant response, resources, expense, staff labor, and program objectives. Provides guidance and leadership to all recreation branch staff. Performs the full range of supervisory duties and applies EEO principles to all aspects of personnel management. Establishes Performance Standards and evaluates performance of subordinates. Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Must be able to work during the hours of operation.
  • A one year probationary period may be required as well as any additional required for position.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: (*The experience must be reflected on your resume to be considered eligible for this position.) Directly related progressive work experience directing one or more recreations programs that provided knowledge of the goals, principles, methods and techniques of recreation. Understanding of the interest of individuals or groups and managerial experience of the caliber described above. Experience must have been equivalent to the next lower pay level. Highly Preferred:(*The experience/education must be reflected on your resume and your degree/transcript uploaded at the time of application to be considered a highly preferred candidate.) Must have held a supervisory role in a related field for (2) two out of the last (5) five years. A four-year undergraduate degree in Recreation OR three years of comparable experience that illustrates a progression in management experience. Experience planning and executing events as lead. **Applicants meeting the Highly Preferred criteria will be referred first to the Selecting Official.
