You will serve as a TECHNICIAN in the NON-DESTRUCTIVE EVALUATION BRANCH of the TEST & EVALUATION DIVISION in the RDT&E DEPARTMENT of NAVSURFWARCEN IH DIV.
This position is equivalent to the GS-13/14 level.
The salary range shown above represents all of the positions within the band, including high grade positions. This is not a high grade position; therefore, the salary may be limited to a GS-13 Step 10 (currently $145,617).
Duties
You will serve as an Assistant Radiation Safety Officer, responsible for assisting in the implementation and maintenance of an effective Radiation Safety Program, as well as a lead non-destructive test operator.
You will ensure the radiation safety program complies with DON and other federal regulations (i.e. RAD-010) and conditions of a Naval Radioactive Material Permit issued to the Command, its detachments, and sites that require this service.
You will formulate policy on the controls for hazards associated with radiation sources and ensure the effectiveness of these measures.
You will maintain Command policy on radiation safety, and provide advice and technical assistance on all matters related to radiation safety requirements and procedures.
You will assist with the promulgation and supervision of radiological controls/radiation safety program for the Command.
You will ensure applicable Navy directives are followed by developing, coordinating, and participating in the training of radiographers and other personnel.
You will work as a senior engineering technician in support of RDT and E activities to include developing radiographic techniques, performing radiographic inspections, and developing radiographic inspection reports for customers.
You will investigate emergencies, accidents, and incidents and report to RASO in accordance with requirements of RAD-010.
You will ensure that any radiation protection program deficiencies are corrected in a timely manner and that personnel exposure to sources or ionizing radiation are maintained As Low As Reasonably Achievable (ALARA).

- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
- You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
Qualifications
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower pay band NT-04 (GS-11/12) in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector analyzing and developing technical engineering methods and techniques to perform radiographic inspections, to include developing and assessing radiographic inspection and deficiency reports, to provide technical direction for radiation control requirements and procedures in support of an energetic or ordnance radiation safety or non-destructive testing program.
