You will serve as a Marine Machinery Mechanic in the Machinery Branch of TRIDENT REFIT FACILITY, BANGOR.

Duties

You will disassemble, inspect, repair and test various types of machinery from ships and submarines. You will perform shop and shipboard repair of valves, regulators, pumps, compressors, diesel engines, and other types of machinery equipment from ships and submarines. You will be required to generate, complete or process opening and closing reports as well as quality control forms and certifications. You will read and interpret drawings, sketches, plans, controlled work procedures, technical repair standards, blueprints for fabrication, installation, repair, and modification of shipboard mechanical systems. You will correct malfunctions in marine machinery by using measuring devices and test equipment such as alignment scopes, transits, strobe tachometers, flow meters, hydrostatic testers, or vibration analyzers. You will operate hand tools, grinders, wrenches, flushing and test equipment.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • You must be willing and able to lift and/or carry loads/items up to 50 pounds in weight.
  • You must be willing and able to climb ladders and scaffolding.
  • You must be willing and able to work onboard ships.
  • This position requires that the selectee have visual acuity and accurate color discrimination. You must be able to distinguish between colors and shades of colors.
  • You must be willing and able to work in small and/or confined spaces.
  • You will be required to work a Shift Work schedule. A Shift Work schedule describes work performed with varying and/or rotating shifts.
  • You must be willing and able to work an uncommon tour of duty (may include weekend, nights, overtime, or holidays).
