About the Position: Incumbent will serve as an Emergency Services Dispatcher; providing emergency police, fire and medical services to the public by answering emergency 911 calls and responding with appropriate personnel and equipment.
This is a Term position not-to-exceed 13 Months with provisions to be extended to a maximum of eight years depending upon the needs of management.
Duties
Maintain an accurate status of all emergency response equipment and personnel to assure prompt and accurate response.
Responsible for the receipt and effective evaluation of 911 emergency calls.
Perform crisis intervention with distraught emergency callers during high-risk situations until appropriate emergency field units arrive on scene.
Operate Telecommunications Device for the Deaf (TDD) equipment for the hearing impaired, conveying messages, taking and making calls.
Provide assistance to medical, police and fire personnel by acting as liaison between department personnel and other agencies.
Monitor, control and acknowledge critical alarm systems enunciated in the center.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
- This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), and retain a current certification for the duration of employment.
- This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain certification Advanced Medical Priority Dispatch System certification, and retain a current certification for the duration of employment.
- This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain a Telecommunication II certification, and retain a current certification for the duration of employment.
- This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain DoD Hazardous Materials Awareness certification, and retain a current certification for the duration of employment.
- The incumbent is responsible for attaining Continuing Dispatch Education (CDE) requirements through in-service training that is offered locally and pass in accordance with predetermined course requirements.
- This position is subject to rotating shifts where the incumbent is required to work an alternate work schedule, which requires an uncommon tour of duty (including nights, weekends, and holidays).
- The work is performed in a highly stressful, restricted office environment.
- This position is subject to emergency recall to duty; incumbent must maintain a functioning telephone.
- This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
- Incumbent is required to obtain and maintain a Texas Crime Information Center (TCIC) and National Crime Information (NCIC) training; and pass the course(s) with pre-determined requirements set by the Texas Department of Public Safety.
- The incumbent must be able to obtain/maintain access to criminal justice information systems.
- This is a Term position scheduled to last 13 Months. A term position may be extended to a maximum of eight years depending upon the needs of management.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience.
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: Evaluating all incoming emergency and non-emergency calls to determine the problem/nature of the call; Operating Computer Aided Dispatching (CAD) systems, such as radios and station alerting systems; Providing initial incident command support until responding emergency units arrive on scene.
This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).
