Duties
Joining the Customs and Border Protection Office of Field Operations will allow you to use your expertise in visual design and presentation. This position starts at a salary of $78,592.00 (GS-11, Step 1) to $122,459.00 (GS-12, Step 10) with promotion potential to $122,459.00 (GS-12 Step 10). Typical Duties include:
Collaborating with customers and subject matter specialists on proposals for video and still photo productions.
Providing photography support to OT leadership both locally and on occasional travel trips.
Researching complex topics with intent to develop visual products to help explain complex topics to a broader audience.
Developing fact sheets, handouts, charts, graphs, digital photographs, infographics and web pages.
Planning, executing, and directing the design and presentation of photo and video products for use in publications, presentations, and social media.
Qualifications
Basic Requirement: You must provide supporting documentation in your application to show you meet the basic requirement below:
A. Undergraduate and Graduate degree with a major study in one of the following: commercial art, fine arts, art history, industrial design, architecture, drafting, interior design, photography, visual communication, or other fields related to the position. Some positions may also require subject-matter knowledge of medicine, science, or technical equipment. Advanced training in a vocational school, technical institute, or art institute above the high school level in one of the fields listed above is creditable as general experience on a month-for-month basis.

B. I have experience that demonstrates planning the preparation and use of photographs, illustrations, and other art work, charts, diagrams, dioramas, maps, slides, overlays, and other kinds of visual material for use in communicating information through visual means.
You qualify for this position if you meet the basic requirement listed above and possess the experience or substitution of education, if applicable, as described below:
Experience: You qualify for the GS-11 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as:
Providing visual information services and content development in support of strategic communication efforts.
Using an assortment of technologies to encourage support for, understanding of, and adoption of agency program/policies for various targeted audiences.
Working with content providers and subject matter experts, as needed, to obtain content, graphics, or images that support desired layouts and designs.
Assisting in developing and shaping content for dissemination and/or publication via multiple communication channels.

Education Substitution:
Successfully completed 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a degree from an accredited college or university, a degree doctoral degree and or LL.M., if related, that demonstrates the skills necessary to do the work. I understand that I am required to submit proof of my educational claim.
Combining Experience and Education:
A combination of successfully completed education and experience that is at least 100% as described in the Combining Experience and Education statement in the announcement posting. I understand that I am required to submit proof of my educational claim.
Experience: You qualify for the GS-12 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as:
Developing informational material and standard operating procedures that informs appropriate audiences of program and agency activities, plans, policies, programs, and communication programs in further program goals and objectives.
Serving as a technical consultant to senior leaders and staff on all video, photo, printing/electronic publishing-related matters.
Advising clients, stakeholders, or staff on general preliminary graphics plans prior to submission of the end-product to subject matter expert for review.
Serving as a subject matter expert to incorporate communications and visual media, responsible for developing and coordinating various design, visual, and electronic media products.
Communicating visual information requirements to others and coordinating the work of various visual product projects with illustrators, writers, editors, or contract personnel involved in developing the visual products.

You must:
Meet all qualification requirements, including education if applicable to this position, subject to verification at any stage of the application process; and
Meet all applicable Time in Grade requirements (current federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade or equivalent grade band in the federal service) by 10/18/2023.

Residency: There is a residency requirement for all applicants not currently employed by CBP. Probationary Period: All employees new to the federal government must serve a one year probationary period during the first year of his/her initial permanent federal appointment to determine fitness for continued employment.
