The position is located at the Seattle Campus of the VA Puget Sound Health Care System and serves as the Supervisor of the Accessioning/Processing/Blood Drawing section of the Clinical Laboratory that provides services for both inpatients and outpatients at the Seattle Campus and affiliated CBOCs.
Duties

Major Duties:
Responsible for the direct management of blood drawing and accessioning/processing personnel.
Promotes efficient delivery of laboratory specimens, services, and information.
Reports statistical information on workload.
Performs blood draws using aseptic venipuncture and/or capillary puncture techniques.
Performs and documents quality assurance activities related to test performance.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:30am to 4:00pm

Qualifications
ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY: In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), No person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English. You must be proficient in basic written and spoken English in order to meet the requirements of this position.
IN ORDER TO QUALIFY FOR THIS POSITION AT THE GS-8 LEVEL YOU MUST ALSO MEET THE FOLLOWING:
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: You must possess one (1) year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-7 grade level in the Federal service, that equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) needed to successfully perform the duties of the position and that is typically in or related to this Supervisory Medical Technician position to be filled. Specialized experience for the position includes (a) Technical medical laboratory support work such as performing laboratory tests and examinations (chemical, microbiologic, hematologic and blood banking) and preparing reports of findings or (b) technical support work in a closely related field, e.g., biological laboratory technician work that required application of the methods and techniques for the position to be filled. Additional specialized experience which is required for this level includes: experience managing blood drawing and accessioning/processing personnel in a laboratory including managing schedules and work assignments. SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE: Successful completion of one and one-half (1 ½) years of graduate level education in subjects directly related to the position. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business or technical school, junior college, college or university for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. Education cannot be credited without documentation. NOTE TO APPLICANTS: One year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent one year of full-time study; if that number cannot be obtained from the transcript, 18 semester hours will be considered as one full academic year of graduate study. IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements: The work is primarily sedentary but also requires some standing, walking, bending, lifting and carrying of light items. The work requires above average agility and dexterity. The work may require heavy lifting of equipment or patients. The work environment involves regular and recurrent exposure to moderate risks or discomforts typically associated with performing phlebotomy on patients, requiring special safety precautions.
