You will serve as Lead Medical Technician in Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Service for the VA Puget Sound Health Care located in Seattle Washington. You will oversee the accessioning area and phlebotomy supports for the wards, CBOCs, the outpatient laboratory areas and sending out of specimens to referral laboratories and the collection of employee drug screens.

Duties

You will work with Supervisor in the assignment of functions to team members in order to meet routine and unusual deadlines and priorities. You will receive patients for medical laboratory testing collects specimens and evaluates test for processing determination. You will answer telephone calls and coordinates information and actions relating to patient care and services. Assists patients, visitors, and other requesting information, guidance or referral for special assistance. You will receive, validate, process, and distributes specimens to the proper laboratory section for testing. You will provide training to Medical Laboratory Technicians and Medical Technologists in accessioning. You will ensure the quality control procedures and documentation are followed for compliance accrediting agency guidelines. To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by 30 days of the closing date of this announcement, 09/13/2023. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by 30 days of the closing date of this announcement. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. Physical Requirements: The position primarily involves work performed in both sitting and standing positions. Standing and bending for a prolonged period, walking, lifting up to 20 pounds, kneeling, and some climbing of stairs is required. The work requires manual dexterity, a large degree of concentration, and working at top speed for several hours at a time. The ability to distinguish colors and color intensity is required. Work environment: The work is performed on the hospital wards, outpatient clinics and drawing areas, and in the clinical laboratory. There is daily exposure to patients and potentially infectious material, to hazardous chemicals, noxious fumes, flammables, corrosives. Proper precautions, such as wearing protective clothing and gloves, must be followed.
