This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position: Provides assistance to the examining Medical Officer with applicant examination, identification of physical abnormalities and determination of applicant's fitness for military duty. The position is located at the Seattle Military Entrance Processing Center.
Duties
Screen applicant records for conducting physical examinations.
Screen medical records from various health care provide concerning current or past medical conditions, determine applicability of the information for conditions that could be disqualifying for entrance or retention in the military.
Interview applicants for any medical conditions that could affect test results. Determine types of medical examinations required and any special testing due to age or Service requirements.
Brief applicants on proper procedures to follow during the audiometric tests and query applicants for any medical conditions that could affect the test results.
Perform phlebotomy procedures to obtain blood samples for Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and other laboratory tests, using USMEPCOM-standard safety precautions.
Directly observe applicant's urine donation for drug testing and urinalysis, ensuring quantity of sample is sufficient for tests to be performed.
Perform multiple laboratory tests on urine samples and interpret and document results to determine albumin, sugar content, and pregnancy.
Measure and record height and weight and perform Service specific tape tests to determine body fat content.
Monitor and maintain stock level of medical supplies used for applicant medical processing and restock as necessary.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.
- This position is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations. Applicants tentatively selected for this position will be required to sign a statement consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
- Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- This position has a requirement to lift up to 30 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
- This position requires a pre-employment color perception (vision) examination.
- This position requires the use of restrictive and protective clothing such as surgical gloves and no exposed footwear.
- This position may require occasional shift work (before 6:00 am or after 6:00 pm) and occasionally on Saturdays.
- This position requires proof of U.S. Citizenship.
- This position requires successful completion of applicable Military Health System (MHS) GENESIS Training to access the MHS GENESIS System within 30 days of on-boarding and/or as required.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes administering various laboratory tests, such as obtaining blood samples and urinalysis and screening records for completeness. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).
Education
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
