About the Position: Responsible to the Director of Emergency Services (DES) for the day-to-day operations of law and order functions on the installation. Performs a wide range of managerial tasks in planning, managing, directing and evaluating law enforcement operations. Serves as the Police Chief, responsible for supervising through subordinate supervisors the day-to-day operations of a three-shift police organization (on a 7 day/week 24 hours a day operation).

Duties

Develops plans for law enforcement operations on the installation. Plans for current and long range operations based on workloads, trends, and projected requirements. Implements and uses a wide variety of forms, paperwork and documentation associated with police work, processes and functions. Conducts special studies involving known problem areas, recommends solutions, defends actions taken, and coordinates with operating officials and other agencies concerned. Performs the full range of supervisory duties and directs the staff through subordinate supervisor and shift leaders.

Requirements

  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and annually thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • In accordance with AR 690-11, this position has been designated as "Key" and shall not be vacated during a national emergency or mobilization as doing so would seriously impair the capability of the organization to function effectively.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • This position is subject to the provisions of the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban (Lautenberg Amendment). This act bans individuals convicted of misdemeanor domestic violence and certain others from possession or access to firearms or ammunition.
  • A one year probation may be required to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 25% of the time.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. Employee shifts are rotated on a regularly scheduled basis.
  • Due to the nature of this position, employees are required to work both planned and unscheduled overtime.
  • This position requires certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation with Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) training.
  • Incumbents of this position must successfully complete law enforcement training.
  • Incumbent will be required to pass entry level and annual re-certification of the Physical Agility Test (PAT) IAW AR 190-56. Failure to meet PAT requirements will result in a disciplinary action.
  • Incumbent must wear prescribed uniform associated equipment..
  • Incumbent will be required to perform a weapons qualification test and maintain proficiency commensurate with assigned duties and responsibilities.
