This position is located with the Division of Nursing, Inpatient Unit at the Gallup Indian Medical Center in Gallup, NM. The primary purpose is to provide receptionist duties, record keeping and miscellaneous clerical support duties associated with patient care and treatment within the Inpatient Units- ICU, Med/Surg-2W, Pediatrics-4S, and Case Management.
Duties
Receives telephone calls and provides non-confidential information or directs the calls to the appropriate party. Receives patients and visitors to the unit.
Records admission data on kardex, patient record, and unit log. Notifies Patient Registration and Dietary of admissions and/or changes in service.
Performs general and specialize typing utilizing Discharge, Admission and Transfer system, initiates requisition for maintenance; prepares reports, and other necessary tasks including but not limited to copying filing, etc.
Transcribes physicians' orders to kardex, nursing care plan, medication administration record and treatment records. Assures that the following clerical and medical supplies are re-ordered and stocked; educational materials, lab, x-ray, telephone lists, urine specimen cups, tapes, dressings, linens, office supplies, official chart forms, etc.
Assembles patient charts. Files results of various tests in patient record. Reviews all charts for completeness upon discharge i.e. signatures in place. Routes requisition forms to dietary, consultative services, laboratory and radiology, etc. in accordance with established protocols.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
GS-04: Applicants must have successfully complete 2 years above high school -OR- Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of general experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled.
GS-05: Applicants must have successfully completed 4 years above high school leading to a Bachelors Degree -OR- Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Scheduling and re-scheduling appointments, knowledge of medical terminology, recording information accurately, basic nursing skills, ability to interview patients.
Combining Education and Experience: Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements at grades GS-5 and below.
For GS-4 level positions, determine the applicant's total qualifying experience as a percentage of the experience required for the grade level; then determine the applicant's education as a percentage of the education required for the grade level; then add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify an applicant for that grade level.
For GS-5 level positions only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
