This position is located in the Division of Nursing Services at the Gallup Indian Medical Center in Gallup, NM. The Primary purpose of the position is to perform receptionist duties, record keeping and miscellaneous clerical support duties associated with patient care and treatment in the outpatient clinics (Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Walk-In Primary Care, Pediatric).
NOTE: Applicants will be referred when vacancies occur for the departments.
Duties
Performs customer services by greeting patients and visitors courteously, answering inquirers or requests, and directing them to the appropriate staff, room or department. Receives and reviews all incoming mail.
Obtains medical records for appointment prior to patients arrival. Checks the charts for completeness and places the necessary forms in the chart.
Assures that patients are properly checked/logged into the clinic and patient forms are initiated using the automated system utilized by the facility, i.e. PCC plus, health summary.
Reviews physician's orders, transcribes orders to request forms on patient activities, diets, treatments and tests; then routes requisitions, consultative requests, and referrals in accordance with established protocols.
Prepare patients charts for discharge, transfer or admission by reviewing chart for verification of completeness and filing appropriate documentation.
Retrieves medical record bin in the morning and returns bin and/or uncollected charts to Medical Records Department at the end of the day.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
GS-05: Applicants must successfully complete 4 years of education beyond High School leading to a Bachelors Degree
-OR- Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Provide patient registration, eligibility, and information services; obtain patient biographic information and verify health insurance coverage; evaluate patient record to determine alternate insurance resources such as private, commercial, or supplemental insurance options, the use of automated software systems in the performance to schedule medical appointments, build reports, graphs and reporting data.
Combining Education and Experience: Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements at grades GS-5
For GS-5 level positions, only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
