This position is part of the Office of Environmental Management - Headquarters, Department of Energy. As a Environmental Protection Specialist, you will provide environmental management and environmental protection expertise and support to Department of Energy programs, projects or initiatives whose mission or responsibilities.

Qualifications
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position is defined as:
For the GS-12 position, one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level defined as:
Interpreting environmental regulations, theories, and techniques related to environmental cleanup and performing radioactive waste management, program evaluation and investigative techniques; and
Preparing and conducting briefings, organizing information and writing succinctly and clearly.
For the GS-13 position, one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level defined as:
Interpreting environmental regulations, theories, and techniques related to environmental cleanup and performing radioactive waste management, program evaluation and investigative techniques;
Preparing and conducting briefings, organizing information and writing succinctly and clearly; and
Evaluating contract requirements to ensure compliance with environmental, safety, and health regulations.

Examples of qualifying unpaid experience may include: volunteer work done through National Service programs (such as Peace Corps and AmeriCorps); as well as work for other community-based philanthropic and social organizations. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills; and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
