About the Position: This position is located at Brooke Army Medical Center, Department of Emergency Medicine, Emergency Room.

Duties
Expedite patient through the Department of Emergency Medicine by performing duties such as initial greeting, triage, vital signs, and assists registered nurse with triaging.
Provide routine medical care in accordance with protocols such as: basic wound care, dressing changes, application of splint, application of hot/cold packs, etc.
Provide Basic Life Support, Advanced Life Support and other medical care according to established treatment protocols. Assists physician/nurse with medical treatments or procedures.
Provides Department of Emergency Medicine staff with appropriate patient information, maintaining an environmentally safe waiting room area, minimizes patient and family member’s stressors.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a two year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
- This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.
- This is a Drug Testing Position.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- This position requires Basic Life Support training certification from, or in accordance with, the American Heart Association and American Red Cross.
- This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations (natural or man-made disaster) the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled.
- This position requires an EMT certification.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes recognizing, stabilizing and treating a variety of medical emergencies. Experience in dressing wounds, administering authorized medications, taking vital signs, performing EKG tests and managing patients under emergent conditions.This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).
