Duties

The primary purpose of this position is: To exercise supervisory and managerial authorities over the 20th Fighter Wing (ACC) Command Post as the Chief, as the Wing Commander's Executive Agent Command and Control element leader for dissemination of Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff (CJCS), Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA), Air Combat Command (ACC), Northern Command (NORTHCOM), Northeast Air Defense (NORAD, Air Mobility Command (AMC), and other National Command Authority message traffic, taskings, and directions to Senior Installation leaders' Wing-directed exercises. Duties: Plans, organizes, and oversees the activities of the Command Post. Exercises supervisory personnel management responsibilities. Represents Command Post and Wing on Command and Control with a variety of installation and functional area organizations. Ensures uninterrupted command and control function between wing organizations, tenants and all higher headquarters.

  • Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft/vehicle to conferences, meetings, or functions away from the duty office/location. Travel may include overnight stays.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret clearance.
  • Maintain proficiency and certification monthly per AFI 10-207 and ACC supplement.
  • May occasionally be required to work other than normal duty hours and/or Shift work may be required which may include overtime and/or irregular hours.
  • The employee may be recalled to duty.
  • This is a Mission-Essential position performing a Mission-Critical-Function which must continue uninterrupted after the occurrence of an emergency and continued through full resumption of all functions.
  • This is a Supervisory Position. A supervisory probationary period is required if applicant selected has not previously met this requirement.

Qualifications

Conditions of Employment Cont. This is a Term position NTE (31 Dec 2026); the individual selected for this position may be extended without further competition. Current Federal civilian employees may apply for this position using "Reinstatement" eligibility and if selected, a break in service of at least 4 calendar days may be required prior to appointment to this position. This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program. Employee must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing. Illegal drug use by employees in sensitive positions presents a clear threat to the mission of the Air Force, national security, and public safety. In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Administrative and Management Positions, Miscellaneous Administration and Program Series, 0301. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-11, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes knowledge of functions pertaining to scheduling, flight operations, and incident procedures similar to command post operations and mission; knowledge of safety and security regulations, practices, and procedures; ability to plan, organize, and direct the functions and mentor, motivate, and appraise the staff of an organization through subordinate supervisors; and ability to analyze, plan, and adjust work operations of one or more organizational segments to meet program requirements and objectives within available resources. FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-11 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-12 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge of functions pertaining to scheduling, flight operations, and incident procedures similar to command post operations and mission. 2. Knowledge of safety and security regulations, practices, and procedures. 3. Ability to plan, organize, and direct the functions and mentor, motivate, and appraise the staff of an organization through subordinate supervisors. 4. Ability to analyze, plan, and adjust work operations of one or more organizational segments to meet program requirements and objectives within available resources. 5. Ability to communicate both orally and in writing. Skill in manipulating and operating various databases and multiple office computer applications such as spreadsheets, word processing and graphics software. Skill in operating a variety of communications systems. 6. Ability to work in high stress, rapid response situations and multi-task situations. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
