You will serve as a WATER PLANT OPERATOR in the OPERATIONS DEPARTMENT of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Duties

You will decontaminate reactor plant components in accordance with Military Standard 774 and local instruction. You will prepare metal surfaces for painting and inspection by using hand and power wire steel brushes, sanders, grinders or other various site preparation tools. You will maintain radioactive material accountability and inventory control records as required by instructions for all liquid and solid waste. You will escort radioactive materials when moved between radiological controlled areas, approved facilities and worksites. You will operate fork-lifts to move materials weighing several hundred pounds. You will accomplish spot checks through surveillances, pre-job briefings, and attending shop training to ensure training meets the required standard.

• Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
• This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
• This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
• Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
