You will serve as a WATER PLANT OPERATOR in the OPERATIONS DEPARTMENT, RADIOLOGICAL FACILITY, REFUELING COMPLEX of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD.
Duties
You will decontaminate reactor plant components in accordance with MIL-STD-774 and local instructions.
You will account for, store, retrieve, and inventory all Radioactive Material (RAM) in Production Department custody that is not installed or being actively worked, which includes material store for future use or sent for disposal.
You will ensure the correct waste stream is properly identified, categorized, segregated, and packed accordingly to prepare the waste for disposal in accordance with established procedures.
You will serve as radioactive material escort for transfer of radioactive materials outside of radiological controlled areas.
You will prepare metal surfaces for painting and inspection by using hand and power wire steel brushes, sanders, grinders, or other various site preparation tooling.
Requirements

- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
- This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Maintaining an accountability and storage system to ensure Radioactive Material (RAM) is properly packaged and handled during transfer/storage.
Operating, inspecting, and maintaining Mixed Waste Accumulation and Satellite areas within the Controlled Industrial Facility (CIF) for final disposal to an outside contractor.
Utilizing work processes performed in the radiological repair facility including waste separation, water solidification, and decontamination processes.
Operating, Initializing, and being able to download hand held electronic scanners.
Regulating water volume and performing simple treatment processes such as aerating and softening water.
