You will serve as a WATER TREATMENT PLANT OPERATOR in the NUCLEAR PRODUCTION MANAGER DEPARTMENT at the PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Duties

You will assemble catch tanks used for highly contaminated work operations. You will develop strategies to maintain the Mixed Waste Accumulation Areas throughout the facility. You will test radiological controlled vacuum cleaners and generators. You will work within containment enclosures to inspect and certify technical work documents.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current Hazardous Waste Accumulation Area Worker certification within six months of assignment.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION Ability to operate Waste Packaging, Waste Separation, Water Solidification, Decontamination Processes, Efficiency testing of Vacuum Cleaners, Vacuum Cleaner Bag Change Out and Dumping, HEPA Filter Change Out, Air Flow checks, and Polybottle pumpdown systems to support work process performed in the radiological repair facility; Ability to read, identify and use the Facilities Systems Status Reports (FSSR) to develop strategies prior to working in the facility; Ability to operate and adjust pumps, valves, and feeder systems; Ability to record the treatment to ensure approved methods and procedures were followed; Ability to comprehend engineering drawings and specifications related to radioactive liquid waste processing systems and radiological repair facility support systems.
