The Southeast Louisiana Veterans Health Care system includes a new Medical Center and seven community-based outpatient clinics serving 23 parishes in southeast Louisiana. As a work leader, this position is responsible for leading the following positions: Electricians (high voltage and medium voltage), Utility System Repairer Operators, Maintenance Mechanics, Painters, HVAC Mechanics and/or Workers, and Pipefitters.
Duties
Duties:
Operate and use a wide variety of specialty woodworking machines and tools;
Prepares surfaces for painting by washing, sanding, burning with a blowtorch, using prepared paint removers, puttying holes, plastering small cracks, shellacking knots;
Tests, repairs, and maintains essential emergency power switch gear;
Examines and troubleshoots equipment, machinery and systems to determine the extent of repairs required, materials or parts needed, and to estimate the time required to complete repairs;
Performs air balancing, modifying various elements of the system, air quality surveys, and isolation of HVAC control and maintenance systems; and,
Performs locksmith work on are in warehouses, hospitals, and administrative spaces and complexes including those with areas that have special requirements such as communication centers, electronic data processing centers, operating rooms, laboratories, clean rooms, and other areas with sensitive equipment.
This position is covered by AFGE bargaining unit.

Work Schedule: SU 10:30a-7p & M-Th 2p-10:30p or Sa 10:30a-7p & Tu-Fr 2p-10:30p subject to change based on the needs of the facility

Physical Requirements: Work involves strenuous, heavy physical effort and frequent reaching, bending, stooping and turning. Equipment worked on is large and must be moved in and out of specific locations. Frequently sets up parts and equipment that weigh up to 75 pounds and occasionally heavier. Ladders scaffolds and platforms may be used when working systems.
Working Conditions: Work is performed inside and outside in all types of weather. Incumbent may work in awkward and cramped positions and may be exposed to the dander of the job and equipment.
