This vacancy is for a WS-4749-11, Maintenance Mechanic Supervisor located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, BASE NEW ORLEANS.

Duties

You will serve as a Maintenance Mechanic Supervisor and be responsible for supervising of industrial production and operations within one of two branches at the Industrial Facility and providing administrative and technical supervision to the assigned workforce for the maintenance and repair of Coast Guard assets in the assigned area of responsibility. Qualifications

To qualify for the Maintenace Mechanic Supervisor, WS-4749-11, applicants must meet the following screen-out job element to be considered for this position: Job Element #73: Ability to lead or supervise the work of others as a Maintenance Mechanic Supervisor, WS-4749-11 (SCREEN OUT). Applicants will be evaluated on their ability to perform the duties of the position rather than the length of experience. Eligibility will be determined by the relevance, scope, and quality of all experience and training, regardless of where or how acquired. To meet the screen-out examples of the duties includes: 1) Scheduling the work with assistance of Managers and Support staff, Learn tools and effective use of employees and resources.2) Supervising or leading maintenance progress while communicating any potential issues to appropriate managers.3) Supervising daily maintenance of work in estimating shore and waterfront maintenance, including, but not limited to, mechanical repair/engine overhaul, hydraulics and hydraulic system repairs, carpentry, heavy equipment or when repairs (cranes, mobile boat hoist, forklifts, telehandlers, etc.), welding and ship fitting, plumbing, per the Command and facility Programs; checking quality of work perform and training or leading at various maintenance stages; operation, of equipment; and progress against schedules.4) Provide leadership and training to employees to perform ongoing safety checks and efficient performance of maintenance processes. AND 5) Draft statements of work, condition found reports (CFR), draft informative/factual email correspondence, provide timely performance/evaluation feedback including the required documentation to those supervised and to the General Forman on subordinates' performance Applicants will be evaluated on their ability to perform the duties of the position rather than the length of experience. Applicants will be rated and ranked based on their knowledge of the following job elements: Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (Includes Blueprint Reading)Ability to Lead or SuperviseAbility to Use and Maintain Tools and EquipmentKnowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, and Repair, etc.Knowledge of MaterialsTechnical Practices (Theoretical, Precise, Artistic)Use of Measuring Instruments NOTE: Education cannot be substituted for experience at this grade level. National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. The Office of Personnel management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees. If you are currently, or have been within the last 5 years, a political Schedule A, Schedule, C, Non-career SES or Presidential Appointee employee in the Executive Branch, you must disclose this information to the Human Resources Office.
