About the Position: This position serves as the principal scenario writer, primary training consultant, and operational subject matter expert for various Army standard live fire and maneuver ranges. This position is located on Fort Liberty NC. with DPTMS.
This is an obligated position to an employee who has statutory restoration rights or entitlement based on active military service, recovery from a compensable injury, or return rights of an overseas tour.
Duties
Render advisory services to military personnel in the planning and conducting of live fire training on specific live fire and maneuver ranges, including training exercises that are designed as classified operations.
Ensure safety of all personnel involved in combined live-fire exercises of infantry platoons and companies, armor, anti-armor, and helicopters firing automatic weapons and rockets.
Remain constantly abreast of firing safety policies and regulations to ensure proper implementation and adherence.
Apply knowledge of Range Safety Regulations sufficient to identify and eliminate hazardous conditions arising from weapons firing and training.
Maintain operations calendars to provide continuously updated data concerning scheduled ranges, scenarios programmed, and military units with current requests processed.
Operate a 1/4 - 5-ton motor vehicle using safe operating practices, rules, regulations and laws.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a valid motor vehicle operators' license.
- The employee will be required to successfully pass physical examinations as required by Federal and Office of Safety and Occupational Health Administration guides.
- This position is subject to irregular and/or rotating shifts, weekend and/or holiday work schedules.
- This position is approved for Hazardous Duty Pay and the incumbent is eligible for hazard duty pay differential when assigned to work in an area approved for hazard duty pay.
- Term employment is subject to a one year trial period. Employees serving a trial period can be removed with limited appeal rights.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes advising military training personnel on live fire and maneuver ranges; conducting detailed planning sessions and terrain walks with unit representatives to construct training scenarios; and, ensuring military training objectives, policies, procedures and safety procedures are adhered to during live fire exercises. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as military firearms instruction or military range safety officer.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).
