The Social Science Program Coordinator serves as a Health Coaches working within the facility and organization to promote healing relationships, healing environments, and a patient-centered approach to care across all service lines. Provide educational opportunities by conducting outreach activities to inform Veterans and family members of available programs.
Duties
The Social Science Program Coordinator serving within the Whole Health Coaching and Wellness Program will complete On-the-Job (OJT) training as well as two separate courses to test for certification as a Whole Health Coach. While training, and once certified, the Whole Health Coach will work closely with Veterans, family members, clinicians, and PACT members to assist the Veteran in achieving their personal goals, to promote healthy lifestyle changes and to foster overall health and well-being. Duties include;
Champion patient-centered care principles and strategies to empower Veterans to make choices that will optimize health and well-being.
Develop a coaching/mentoring relationship with the patient and assist the patients through a process of actively working toward better health by providing support, encouragement, and education.
The Whole Health Coach will be knowledgeable of VHA and community resources that may support each Veteran's vision for health and well-being.
Assist with the program needs assessment, recommendations for program design, and evaluation or program outcomes.
Together with the Veteran, the Whole Health Coach will construct a plan to fit the culture and lifestyle of the patient.
Promotion Potential: The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level.
Preferred Specialized experience for a GS-09:
Certificates of completion of Whole Health Coaching and Mind -Body medicine training,
Experience in Leading group classes and sessions.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 10/05/2023.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
For a GS-07 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05.
For a GS-09 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-07.
The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade.

Individual Occupational Requirements (Basic Requirements): You MUST meet the Basic Requirements and the Minimum Qualifications to qualify for this Social Science Program Coordinator position.
Education: Successfully completed a full four (4) year course of study at an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's degree or higher, with a major study in behavioral science, social science, or related disciplines appropriate to this position. The number of semester hours required to constitute a major field of study is the amount specified by the college or university attended. If this number cannot be obtained, 24 semester hours will be considered as equivalent to a major field of study. NOTE: Official/unofficial transcripts must be submitted with your application or your application will not be reviewed. Education cannot be credited without documentation.

Combination of Education and Experience: Possess a combination of education and experience that provided me with the knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field of the position. Experience: Possess four (4) years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that I have acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field of the position. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Interpreting administrative policies, developing and implementing local policies, defining administrative requirements, and/or providing advice to management and staff on related issues; manage training requirements, including mandatory and position specific training; prepare reports, letters, correspondence and documents needed for data presentation; provide technical and administrative supervision and provides advice, counsel, and instruction to employees on both work and administrative matters.

To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have 1 year of graduate-level education or superior academic achievement in behavioral or social science; or related disciplines appropriate to the position. Physical Requirements: Regular and recurring work is mostly sedentary involving sitting at a desk, although the position requires the ability to move from one geographic location of the facility to another.
