About the Position: Join us at the United States Southern Command. We provide direct support to a four-star unified Combatant Commander, but are compact enough that our staff also works with senior leadership representatives of our inter-service, inter-agency and (public and private) international partner organizations. Our contribution to furthering our country's relationships with South and Central American nations and peoples are substantial.
Duties
Assist in the formulation of positions across a broad spectrum of national security issues related to China to the Commander, component command leadership and ensure recommendations are informed and coordinated with interagency and alliance partners.
Assess risk in executing the National Military Strategy (NMS), Guidance for the Employment of the Force (GEF), Defense Planning and Programming Guidance (DPPG), and strategic command documents.
Formulates strategies designed to communicate strategic and operational analysis, assessments, and recommendations to counter DoD priority malign activities operating across the USSOUTHCOM AOR.
Serves as a consultant and recognized technical expert in assessing Chinese strategic and operational objectives in the United States Southern Command (USSOUTHCOM) area of responsibility (AOR).
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret Clearance.
- This position is covered by the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program. You will be required to sign a DA 5019 and take and pass a urinalysis test prior to appointment and periodically thereafter.
- Incumbent may be required to work other than normal duty hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays, and will be compensated within the scope/guidelines of government civilian employment.
- This position may require Travel away from duty station (TDY) up to 10%. Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft.

Basic Requirement for China Affairs Global Integration Specialist:
A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in behavioral or social science, or related disciplines appropriate to the position, such as International Relations and Global Politics.
OR
B. Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.
OR
C. Experience: Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes serving as a strategic analyst with extensive China experience on providing expert advice to senior leadership to assist in shaping organizationactivities in support of US strategies towards China; and leading or supporting emerging priority strategic initiatives related to the People's Republic of Chinaas determined by seniorleadership. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-13).
