About the Position:
This position is assigned to the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Military Community and Family Policy (DASD (MC&FP), Assistant Secretary of Defense for Manpower and Reserve Affairs (M&RA), Office of the Under Secretary of Defense, Personnel and Readiness (USD (P&R)). This position assists in governing a broad range of programs and services addressing the needs and challenges of service members and their families.
Duties
Develop strategies for resolution of systemic and individual problems; identify deficiencies in existing programs.
Incorporate trends analysis of program requirements into policy recommendations for morale, welfare, and recreation (MWR) programs.
Develop strategies supporting the implementation and administration of policy and strategic plans.
Establish and nurture relationships with national, state, local, and military leaders with vested with vested interests in improving quality of life for service members and their families.
Maintain awareness of regulatory requirements, management principles, and/or the application of technology for morale, welfare, and recreation (MWR) programs and services.
Review morale, welfare, and recreation (MWR) programs for potential efficiencies based on joint service initiatives and/or federal partnership opportunities.
Deliver presentations and provide training to military and civilian audiences on programs and services available for service members and their families.
Requirements
- Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Requirement.

- One-year probationary period may be required.
- Appointment subject to a suitability/fitness determination, as determined by a background investigation.

Specialized Experience GS 14: One year of specialized experience which includes evaluating military morale, welfare, and recreation (MWR) programs, collaborating with stakeholders to address the needs of service members and their families, and developing policy and procedures regarding morale, welfare, and recreation (MWR) programs. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-13).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
