The New Mexico VA Healthcare System is recruiting for a Program Assistant assigned to the Surgical Care Service. The incumbent will assist the Podiatric medicine Surgery Residency (PMSR), and Optometry Residency Program (ORP) directors in overall management of their respective programs.
Duties
Assist in development and annually updating the Resident Manual as directed by the PMSR Program Director.
Collaborate with Human Resources to assure timely process of credentialing paperwork for all incoming and continuing students and/or residents.
Assess/direct a wide range of programmatic issues i.e. long range planning, assisting the recruitment process of trainees, developing training projects as assigned by the Program Director, analyzing administrative workflow, maintaining databases, communicating with faculty/ trainees regarding a range of issues and/or managing internal and external program relations.
Assist in scheduling activities to include i.e. a well-designed mix of self-directed learning, seminar participation, instructional experiences and scholarship.
Organize/prepare meetings and/or distributes materials for conferences and lectures as needed.
Develop and create brochures, invitations or advertisements for events or lectures.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:00am-4:30pm

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 10/04/2023.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS-06 grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS- position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
You may qualify based on your experience as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: utilizing automated software to enter and maintain data; organizing and maintaining files and records; screening phone calls to determine the nature and referring to appropriate staff; and providing administrative support to daily operations..

Physical Requirements: Work is performed is primarily sedentary, although some slight physical effort may be required. Due to the complexity of the work and personal interactions, the multiplicity of project/tasks at any one time, and deadlines, the job may be psychologically stressful at times.
