This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Police Officers to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position: The primary purpose of the position is to perform law enforcement work to maintain law and order, preserve the peace, protect life and civil rights, detect and investigate crimes, arrest or apprehend violators, and perform patrols within the jurisdiction of the military installation.
Duties
Apply laws, ordinances, and rules pertaining to the rights of an individual suspected of committing a crime or other violation.
Access law enforcement networks to share information between police departments.
Complete police reports on incidents to ensure that all pertinent information is reported.
Complete required reports or forms necessary to document incidents or criminal investigations.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Successfully graduated from United States Army Civilian Police Academy or successfully graduate within 12 months of hire date or a current employee and considered grandfathered IAW AR 190-56 unless incumbent has current approved waiver from the OPMG
- Incumbent must be able obtain and maintain a valid Tier 3 (Secret) security investigation.
- Incumbent must be able to successfully pass training, certification and qualification requirements. These include, but not limited to: weapons qualifications, first aid/CPR and National Incident Management System (NIMS) training requirements.
- Incumbent must meet the requirements of AR 190-56.
- This is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) and is covered by the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program. IAW AR 600-85, a DA 5019 Condition of Employment must be signed for mandatory drug testing.
- The 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968 covers this position. Incumbent is subject to removal from the position if convicted of a felony in accordance with Section 639 of P.L. 106-554 effective January 20, 2001.
- Incumbent in this position is designated as Mission Essential (IAW DODI 3024.42 DTM 17-004) position during Inclement Weather Conditions or other designed/identified emergency conditions.
- Incumbent must possess a valid state driver’s license and be able to obtain and maintain a government motor vehicle operator’s license.
- Official Temporary Duty (TDY) up to 10% of the time may be required.
- Must be able to wear personal protective equipment for extended periods of time as needed IAW 29 CFR 1910.140.
- Incumbent must wear a uniform and comply with the Army Civilian Police Dress and maintain a high state of appearance and hygiene in accordance with AR 190-56.
- Incumbent is subject to possible civil action due to improper exercises of authority or injudicious use of force in the apprehension or detention of individuals.
- Incumbent must be proficient in the use of assigned firearms/weapons, pass an initial qualification. All weapons training and qualifications will be conducted IAW AR 190-56 "The Army Civilian Police and Security Guard Program".
- Must be able to carry items weighing 50 pounds or more.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of experience which includes experience applying laws and regulations to law enforcement operations, practices and techniques and involved responsibility for maintaining order and protecting life and property. Assisting with law enforcement preliminary investigations. Creditable specialized experience may have been gained in work on a police force; through service as a military police officer; in work providing visitor protection and law enforcement in parks, forests, or other natural resource or recreational environments or in performing criminal investigative duties. The definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed equivalent to the next lower grade/position in Federal Service (GS-06).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
