In this position you will be responsible for general maintenance and repair requirements as established by the Maintenance Supervisor or Chief of Engineering for the Central Iowa Health Care System in Des Moines, Iowa. You will work under the direct supervision of the Maintenance and Repair
Supervisor. Work is assigned on a long-term, as well as on a day-to-day basis.
Duties
Major Duties:
ELECTRICAL:
Assists an experienced Electrician with performing various tasks pertaining to voltage systems ranging from 10V to 13200V AC and DC.
Performs basic electrical work independently.
Performs required receptacle testing for patient care areas.
Driving and operating various pieces of equipment including UTVs, boom truck, and other lifting equipment.
Light fixture repair.
Circuit breaker resetting and troubleshooting.
PLUMBING:
Assists an experienced Plumber/Pipefitter with performing various tasks pertaining to plumbing systems throughout the campus.
Exercising valves for both water and steam.
Installs insulation on all types of piping/valves.
Operates jetter/high water pressure machine for cleaning drains.
Performs flushing of plumbing fixtures for prevention of legionella.
AIR CONDITIONING AND REFRIGERATION:
Assists an experienced HVAC Mechanic with performing various tasks pertaining to HVAC systems throughout the campus.
Assist with maintenance, including preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, testing, and repairing of various HVAC
equipment and systems.
Cleaning and inspecting min-split air conditioning/heating units.
Installation of filters on various HVAC units.
GENERAL MAINTENCE:
Minor concrete/grout work including mixing, placing, and removing
Creating and sealing wall penetrations through various wall types.
Installing ceiling tiles.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday - 6:30AM - 3:00PM

Qualifications
PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK CONDITIONS: The incumbent works from ladders, scaffolding and hydraulic platforms. They often
work in portions of the utility systems requiring attention that are cramped, dirty and hard-to-reach locations. The work may involve prolonged crouching and standing and frequent stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in exhausting and
uncomfortable positions. The incumbent frequently lifts or carries tools, equipment, ladders, scaffolding, parts and supplies up to 50 pounds. Occasionally, the incumbent will be required to lift and carry items over 50 pounds.
