The primary purpose of the position is to provide instruction, along with modification of course content, as part of an ongoing training program with an emphasis on biological cleanliness and infection control. Instruction and training is provided to employees within the Environmental Care Section, participants in the Compensated Work Therapy (CWT) Program, and others with duties related to environmental sanitation, such as Nursing Assistants, working throughout the hospital and clinics.
Assists in the development and implementation of a comprehensive environmental management and disease prevention curricula that successfully contributes to maintaining a safe, therapeutic and supportive healthy healing environment.
Manages all aspects involved with instructing courses in a classroom and medical simulation laboratory training environment.
Provides didactic classroom instruction reinforced with healthcare facility-level simulation laboratory training to improve employee competency, efficiency, safety, productivity and adherence to directives.
Instructs courses in a classroom environment to Service Chiefs, Section Chiefs, supervisors and front-line employees focusing on Environmental Management, Healthcare Acquired Infections (HAis), low-incidence high-consequence pathogens, microbiology, chemistry, Reusable Medical Equipment (RME), and medical terminology.
Conducts literature-based research on emerging pathogens, infection control policies, and best practices in order to stay abreast of cutting-edge professional developments and adapt this information in the maintenance of the curriculum. Authors the curriculum of study germane to ESS.
Develops comprehensive training courses and modalities on all aspects of healthcare environmental services.
Maintain an updated library of training materials, educational curricula, and the Environmental Care procedure manual.
Identifies and recommends to ESS management core knowledge requirements for sanitation and waste management policy and procedures.
Facilitates the development of clear and precise procedures for all services within the hospital and clinics with duties related to Environmental Management, Infection Control, Infection Prevention, and RME.
Consults with external subject matter experts to analyze unusual situations and assist with developing process improvement solutions.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 10/02/2023.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS 9 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS 7. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
Specialized Experience GS-9 LEVEL: You must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade (GS-7) in the Federal Service that equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that demonstrated a practical knowledge of the subject area of the position and of the methods and techniques of instruction. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include: experience that demonstrated a practical knowledge of the subject area of the position and of the methods and techniques of instruction; teaching or instructing in an adult education program, secondary school, college, military installation, or industrial establishment in the appropriate field(s); Supervising or administering a training program; Development or review of training/course materials, aids, devices, etc., and evaluation of training results; Work in the occupation or subject-matter field of the position to be filled that required training or instructing others on a regular basis.

Physical Requirements:
Work is performed in an office environment, training/conference rooms, and a simulated patient care/treatment room. Course preparation work is sedentary, while classroom instruction may involve extended periods of standing. No special physical demands are required to perform the work. Protective clothing or gear, such as masks, gowns, goggles, gloves, etc., may be required if the work involves exposure to contagious disease or irritant chemicals.
