About the Position: This position is with the Defense Health Agency. It is located at the Martin Army Community Hospital located on Fort Moore, Georgia. The primary purpose is to perform duties within medical treatment facilities, military installation to safeguard government personnel, information, operations, and critical assets
Duties
Serve as a security guard performing various aspects of law enforcement work designed to maintain law and order and preserve the peace for the Martin Army Community Hospital (MACH) Campus.
Conduct Anti-Terrorism/Force Protection Measures within a medical treatment facility.
Conduct preliminary investigations of accidents and crimes.
Provide protective services work in guarding and protecting Government owned property, buildings, and equipment against trespass, theft, fire, and accidental or willful damage or destruction.
Respond to reports of suspicious persons or items and quell disturbances
Conduct periodic established foot (interior/perimeter) and vehicle (parking lots/facility access roads) patrols to detect physical security breaches and trespassing.
Monitor personnel access into restricted areas (e.g., pharmacy, warehouses, etc.) using both manual and electronic methods (i.e., the door access control (DAS)/intrusion detection system (IDS).
Provide written reports of findings concerning incidents
Under emergency situation, immediately takes appropriate action to ensure the security of personnel, facilities and sensitive material, using
initiative and judgment in interpreting and applying policies and procedures.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
- You must undergo a specific initial background checks, investigation and periodic re-verification check of multiple agency records to obtain and maintain a suitable determination to occupy a position having regular contact with children.
- This position requires the incumbent to undergo and pass an annual medical exam of physical, emotional, and mental stability.
- This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
- This position has been designated Mission Essential. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
- This position requires the incumbent to work on any day or shift, including PMs, nights, weekends, holidays, or on an "on call" basis, necessary to meet mission requirements. In addition to rotating 1st, 2nd, and 3rd shift.
- This position requires the incumbent not have any criminal convictions, and possess and maintain a valid state driver's license. Criminal convictions, and/or loss of license may result in removal from the position.
- This position requires the incumbent to qualify annually with assigned firearms/weapons and be certified in the use of baton by non-lethal instructors.
- The incumbent is required to maintain a high standard of conduct; and will be assessed under the Individual Reliability Program to show they can work effectively under pressure or emergency conditions with a positive attitude toward his/her duties.
- This position requires incumbent to complete a pre-employment physical, physical agility, and psychological examinations and annual thereafter to ensure the required level of physical health and ability to perform the duties of the position.
- This position requires incumbent to be trained and maintain current required certifications in CPR techniques and must know first aid.
- Incumbent must successfully complete security guard training.
- This position requires incumbent to maintain a high state of appearance and hygiene.
- This position may require incumbent to wear chemical protection masks, gloves, and other protective equipment and a uniform. Incumbent must not have any medical condition that precludes the wearing of a chemical protective mask and over garments.
- This position requires the incumbent to have tuberculosis testing and Hepatitis B immunization.
- Incumbent is required to be screened for applicable immunizations and subject to missing/required immunizations.
- This position has mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons (documentation of exemption must be provided upon hire).

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Competition for Security Guard positions is restricted by law to persons entitled to veterans' preference as long as such applicants are available for appointment. If there are no Veteran's preference eligible applicants available, non-preference applicants may be considered.
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes working in a Federal, State, municipal, local, or private protective organization that involved the protection of property against such hazards as fire, theft, damage, accident, or trespass; maintaining order by patrolling perimeters; protecting life; writing and reviewing incident reports; and responding to emergency situations and security breaches. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
Individual Occupational Requirements: Experience such as work with a Federal, State, municipal, local, or private protective organization that involved the protection of property against such hazards as fire, theft, damage, accident, or trespass; or maintaining order and protecting life. Such experience must have provided a knowledge of protective systems and techniques. Acceptable experience includes service in the Armed Services or Coast Guard that involved the performance of guard duties on a regular or intermittent basis. For Security Guard positions in a hospital setting, experience as a psychiatric nursing assistant or a similar position safeguarding patients is qualifying.
