About the Position: This position is for a Police Officer (Traffic Investigator) GS-0083-08 with the Department of the Army, Installation Management Command, Directorate of Emergency Services, located at Fort Carson, Colorado.

Duties

Serve as the subject matter expert for traffic collision response, investigations, reconstruction and traffic management operations. Execute special event support, motorcade security, and escort visiting dignitaries and traffic enforcement. Exercise search and arrest authority, detain witnesses, apprehend suspects, interview witnesses and other persons involved. Testify as the subject matter expert in court on investigations requiring expert testimony on traffic collision reconstruction. Interpret regulations to determine the enforcement of appropriate laws as they apply to jurisdictional areas.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance.
  • Incumbent must possess and maintain a valid states driver's license.
  • This is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) and is covered by the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program. IAW AR 600-85, a DA 5019R Condition of Employment must be signed for mandatory drug testing.
  • The 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968 covers this position. Incumbent must carry a firearm.
  • This position requires rotating shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays and is subject to recall for emergency overtime.
  • This is a Mission Essential position.
  • This position requires successful completion of pre-employment and annual physical examinations thereafter.
  • Incumbent must obtain and maintain a government motor vehicle operator's license.
  • Incumbent is subject to possible civil action due to improper exercises of authority or injudicious use of force in the apprehension or detention of individuals.
  • Incumbent must be able to successfully pass training, certification and qualification requirements related to law enforcement work functions as prescribed by policy, regulations or statutes.
  • Incumbent must be a graduate from the United States Army Civilian Police Academy, Federal, State or Military Police Academy.
  • Successfully graduated from a DOD, Federal, National or State approved Traffic Management and Collision Investigation (TMCI) course or complete within one year of hire date.
  • IAW AR 190-56, requirements of Individual Reliability Program apply.
  • Incumbent must be able to successfully pass the National Incident Management System (NIMS) training requirements.
  • Incumbent must meet the requirements of AR 190-56: Incumbent must pass a Physical Agility Test (PAT) within 30 days of hire date and annually thereafter; and comply with and maintain the requirements of the Individual Reliability Program (IRP).
