This position, located within the Fayetteville VA Medical Center, Arkansas, is organizationally matrixed within the Nursing Service and collaborates with the Associate Director, Patient Care Services, and the OR Manager for surgery service workload forecasting, scheduling design, procedure development, quality improvement implementation, modification of processes, evaluation and ongoing operation of the OR and outpatient surgery unit and operating room flow.

Duties

***THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION*** This position involves a multi-grade career ladder. The major duties listed below represent the full performance level of GS-07. At the GS-06 grade level, you will perform assignments of a more limited scope and with less independence. You will progressively acquire the background necessary to perform at the full performance level of GS-07. Promotion is at the discretion of the supervisor and is contingent upon satisfactory performance, availability of higher level work, and availability of funds. Duties include, but are not limited to, the following: Provide a high level of administrative and technical support to users and management in the integration and implementation of clinically oriented hardware and software Perform work involving consult management, outpatient surgery service appointment scheduling, and operating room scheduling Collect, compile and track data and statistical information Analyze data and generate a variety of reports Review documents, reports, and/or applications for omissions and inconsistencies and ensures data entry is complete and accurate Enter pertinent information into an automated tracking systems Coordinate service practices that decrease waits and delays for patients in all specialty areas Plan, organize, administer, and direct how the clinic flow and consult management work will be accomplished for the OR and outpatient service Review workload types on a daily basis to validate clinic workload reporting is accurate Coordinate day-to-day operation of clinical flow, processes, and functions Plan and provide support services in electronic records management, clinic scheduling/setup and management program, and space utilization services Develop training and reference materials and provides/coordinates training in software applications to staff Provide special data collection and formatted reports for audits and team visits Review all new software patches for software implementation and relays instruction to staff members Provide information, recommendations, and advice relating to VISTA and the Computerized Record System (CPRS) Perform other duties as assigned. This position requires the skills of a qualified typist. In addition to meeting the experience requirements, you must be able to type at least 40 words per minute. To qualify for this position at the GS-6 level, applicants must meet the following: Specialized Experience: You must have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-5) in Federal Service, that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of a Program Support Assistant, GS-6 position, and that is typically in or related to the work of this position. Specialized experience includes performing a full range of administrative support for an office; drafting written communication, reports, and other correspondence; using various modes of communication (written and verbal); collecting, interpreting, and presenting data; establishing and maintaining databases; and utilizing office automation software such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint). These assignments would have been performed of a more limited scope and with less independence than the full performance level, and be performed under supervision, consulting with the supervisor when problems are encountered. NOTE: Experience must be fully documented on your resume and must include job title, duties, month and year start/end dates AND hours worked per week. To qualify for this position at the GS-7 level, applicants must meet the following: Specialized Experience: You must have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-6) in Federal Service, that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of a Program Support Assistant, GS-7 position, and that is typically in or related to the work of this position. Specialized experience includes performing a full range of administrative support for an office; drafting written communication, reports, and other correspondence; using various modes of communication (written and verbal); collecting, interpreting, and presenting data; establishing and maintaining databases; and utilizing office automation software such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint). At this level, assignments would have been performed independently, with little or no supervision, only consulting with the supervisor when unusual problems are encountered. NOTE: Experience must be fully documented on your resume and must include job title, duties, month and year start/end dates AND hours worked per week. You will be rated on the following Competencies as part of the assessment questionnaire for this position: Administration and ManagementCommunicationComputer Skills IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. The employee is subject to a great deal of stress because of the high volume of work, the need for accuracy, frequency of interruptions and ever changing demands due to program changes. The physical demands of the job require the employee to physically report to a staff member's location in order to assist with clinical computing problems or to educate staff regarding hardware/software problems encountered.
