You will serve as a INTERDISCIPLINARY PHYSICAL SCIENTIST / OCEANOGRAPHER / GEOPHYSICIST / MATHEMATICIAN in the MINE WARFARE ANALYSIS & DATABASE DIVISION, MINE WARFARE DEPARTMENT of NAVOCEANO BAY ST LOUIS.
Duties
You will serve as the Project Leader in the development and maintenance of Mine Warfare (MIW) environmental databases.
You will receive, process, and perform image generation, mosaicing, bottom contact and roughness analysis of sonar imagery data collected aboard ships and MIW Fleet assets, and from outside sources.
You will use computer systems as essential tools to complete geophysical data processing and data basing assignments.
You will provide technical guidance to lower grade personnel who provide support for accomplishing the assigned projects.
You will generate written reports detailing geophysical data processing projects and field survey operations for the Division Director or Senior NAVOCEANO Representative.

- The incumbent performs field duty on ships and aircraft as required. Up to 50% of work assignments may be in the field aboard survey platforms.
- Flight duties require the incumbent to take swimming/physiological training as specified in OPNAVINST 3750.6G.
- The incumbent must not be overly susceptible to motion sickness.
Qualifications
In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Experience collecting, storing, and retrieving digital data, and the analyzing and interpretation of geophysical, acoustics, and oceanographic data collected on various survey platforms; experience correctly interpreting and resolving erroneous or conflicting data; experience developing new methods and techniques and determining the validity of geophysical and oceanographic data and probable area of investigations; experience determining the capabilities and limitations of available computer hardware data base administration, existing software and its effective utilization, and scientific programming.

PHYSICAL SCIENTIST 1301
Degree: physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics.
or
Combination of education and experience -- education equivalent to one of the majors shown in A above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
GEOPHYSICIST 1313
Degree: that included at least 30 semester hours in mathematics (including calculus) and the physical sciences (geophysics, physics, engineering, geology, astronomy, meteorology, electronics, etc.).
or
Combination of education and experience -- courses as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
OCEANOGRAPHER 1360
Degree: major study of at least 24 semester hours in oceanography or a related discipline such as physics, meteorology, geophysics, mathematics, chemistry, engineering, geology, or biology, plus 20 additional semester hours in any combination of oceanography, physics, geophysics, chemistry, mathematics, meteorology, computer science, and engineering sciences.

Combination of education and experience -- course work as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
Applicants who qualify on the basis of major study in biology or geology must have had at least 6 semester hours in the major directly concerned with marine science or 6 semester hours in oceanography; applicants who qualify on the basis of other physical sciences or engineering must have had differential and integral calculus and at least 6 semester hours in physics.
MATHEMATICS 1520
- Degree: mathematics; or the equivalent of a major that included at least 24 semester hours in mathematics.

- Combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in mathematics (including at least 24 semester hours in mathematics), as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
