The Maintenance Mechanic is under direct supervision of the maintenance foreman, from whom they receive instruction and guidance on the more complex assignments. On routine tasks the incumbent works independently within the framework of existing codes, manuals and VA regulations and follows Engineering Preventative Maintenance Program and Engineering work orders and oral assignments.
Duties
Duties include, but are not limited to:
Repairing wheelchairs, carts of various types, hospital beds, lockers and other ward equipment, dietic carts, commercial type dishwashers, and all types of dietic equipment.
Fabricating and installing sheet metal duct and accessories for modifications to ventilation and air-conditioning ducts and plenums.
Performing maintenance and repairs on laundry equipment such as folders, washer extractors, gas and steam dryers.
Repairing all road and ground equipment such as lawn mowers, tractor, backhoe, and loaders.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:30am - 4:00pm

Physical Requirements: The Maintenance Mechanic makes repairs and installations from ladders, scaffolding, and platforms, and where the parts of systems worked on are in hard-to-reach places. This requires the ability to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. The Maintenance Mechanic frequently lifts, carries, and sets up parts and equipment that weighing 100 pounds or more.
