You will serve as the Maintenance Mechanic for the Facilities Management Service Line with the VA Puget Sound Health Care System, Seattle, Washington division.

Duties

You will be responsible for general maintenance and repairs. You will work as a Plumber, Electrician, Carpenter, and Mechanic. You will perform installation, maintenance, repairs, and troubleshooting involving the assigned trades. You will be responsible for pipe repairs, mixing valves, thermostatic valves, pressure regulators, flush meters, anti-siphon devices, and control valves. You will perform tasks such as clearing drains, waste, and vent lines. You will be responsible for electrical motors, motor starters, switches, light bulbs, ballasts, and wall receptacles. You will be able to use and interpret readings from various electrical measuring instruments such as amprobes, multimeters, and megohmeters. You will be responsible for door alignments, door hardware (including closers, locking devices, wall hung fixtures, furniture, shelving, acoustical ceilings, wall repair, floor coverings, and other miscellaneous items. You will at times fabricate various wood, metal, plastic, and laminate products using common carpentry tools such as tape measures, saws, grinders, and sanders. You will be responsible for appliances (washers, dryers, stoves, etc.), pumps, compressors, vacuum pumps, ventilation equipment, heat transfer and condensing units, medical gas service outlets, and various mechanical control devices. You will be responsible for filters and belts, floor tiles (vinyl & carpet), painting, chairs, desks, cabinets, bulletin boards, white boards, pictures, mirrors, clocks, desk casters, chairs, carts, shelves, paper towel dispensers, soap dispensers, lotion dispensers, and sanitizer dispensers. You will perform other duties as assigned. Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:00 am to 3:30 pm Position Description Title/PD#: Maintenance Mechanic/PD40771A Physical Requirements: The work requires installation, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing equipment or components from ladders, platforms and scaffolding and in cramped or hard to reach areas. This can require walking long distances, prolonged standing, stooping, bending, and climbing in uncomfortable or tiring positions. Frequently lifts, carries, and sets up materials and equipment that weigh up to 10 pounds. May occasionally handle materials and equipment that weighs in excess of 50 lbs. Work Conditions: The working conditions vary with the environment. It may be inside or outside, and is generally dirty, dusty, greasy, and may be in inclement weather. May be assigned to work in areas here certain potentially harmful physical and/or chemical agents are present such as in the research labs. To ensure employee safety and health, personnel protection programs are maintained. These programs may include engineering controls, training, work procedures, use of personal protective equipment, and medical surveillance. As part of the medical surveillance programs, may be required to take medical examinations to assess his/her medical qualification for duty. with no unusual health hazards. The incumbent observes normal safety precautions.

Qualifications

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
