This position is located at the US Coast Guard, Academy, Department of Logistics, Facilities Engineering Department, Buildings and Grounds Branch, Seattle, WA.
Duties
The incumbent serves as a journeyman level maintenance mechanic. The maintenance mechanic performs a variety of tasks involved in the upkeep of buildings, grounds and related structures, fixtures, and utilities. Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include:*Electrician: Serving as journeyman electrician: Installing, testing, repairing, troubleshooting, and maintaining a variety of electrical equipment and systems such as: pumps, heaters, controls, alarms, fans, motors, air compressors, electrical panels, meters, lights, overhead lines, motor control counters, transfer switches, electric generators, breakers, relays, switchgear, transformers, voltage settings and insulations, voltage regulators, breakers, substation equipment and tools and appliances. Performing various required tests. Following maintenance schedules and inspections of work orders, performing maintenance services, diagnosis system or equipment malfunction and repairs as necessary.

- U.S. Citizenship is required.
- Applicant is required to meet the physical requirements of the position.
- Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
- The position requires a valid state driver's license.
- This position requires a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI).
Qualifications
Applicants will be evaluated on their ability to perform the duties of the position rather than the length of experience. Eligibility will be determined by the relevance, scope, and quality of all experience and training, regardless of where or how acquired. Applicants will be rated and ranked based on their knowledge of the following job elements:- Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision (SCREEN OUT ELEMENT)- Knowledge of equipment assembly, installation, repair, etc.- Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic)- Use of measuring instruments- Ability to interpret instructions, specification, etc. (includes blueprint reading)- Ability to use and maintain tools and equipment- Knowledge of materialsNational Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
