Organizational Location: This position is with the Department of Homeland Security, within U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Commissioner, Office of the Executive Secretariat, located in Washington, DC.
Duties
The Incumbent provides editorial support for the Commissioner, the Deputy Commissioner, Executive Assistant Commissioners, Assistant Commissioners, and other Principal Officials across the Headquarters in support of Office of the Executive Secretariat (OES)' mission, serving as the definitive authority and performs editorial reviews on sensitive written material and products developed throughout the organization and in support of the Commissioner's priorities. As an experienced writer-editor professional who is comfortable in a fast-paced work environment, you will facilitate communication of DHS and CBP security, defense, and law enforcement subjects that may be both complex and controversial, interacting with all levels of leadership, exhibiting sound judgment, discretion, attention to detail, strong work ethic, robust analytical skills and sensitivity to process, protocol, deadline and timetable requirements.
This position starts at a salary of $132,368.00 (GS-14, Step 1) to $172,075.00 (GS-14, Step 10) with promotion potential to $172,075(GS-14 Step 10).

Duties of this position will include:
Administering writer-editor guidance, as the senior subject-matter expert, on all written products of the CBP Commissioner and related DHS level managers, program officials, and leading figures of government.
Receiving routine and congressional correspondence from CBP and DHS component offices for review, editing and occasional rewrites.
Serving as the senior subject-matter expert on the grammar, style, and formatting of official CBP correspondence.
Demonstrating effective written communication to other writer-editors and correspondence analysts.
Qualifications
Experience: You qualify for the GS 14 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as:
Writing and editing Senior-level written correspondence (e.g., Congressional correspondence) and presentations for a variety of audiences (e.g., internal organization, external agencies, general public).
Writing and editing documents in a variety of styles (e.g., technical, informative, persuasive, marketing, executive summaries, talking points)
Following guidelines to ensure written materials adhere to established standards (e.g., grammar, metrics, category, and significance).

You must:
Meet all qualification requirements, including education if applicable to this position, subject to verification at any stage of the application process; and
Meet all applicable Time in Grade requirements (current federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade or equivalent grade band in the federal service) by 09/22/2023.

Residency: There is a residency requirement for all applicants not currently employed by CBP. Individuals are required to have physically resided in the United States or its protectorates (as declared under international law) for at least three of the last five years. Working for the U.S. Government as a federal civilian or as a member of the military

Working as a contractor, intern, consultant or volunteer supporting the U.S. government
Probationary Period: All employees new to the federal government must serve a one year probationary period during the first year of his/her initial permanent federal appointment to determine fitness for continued employment. Current and former federal employees may be required to serve or complete a probationary period.
