This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Domestic Defense Industrial Base (DIB) & Major Range and Test Facilities Base (MRTFB) to recruit/appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position: Crane Army Ammunition Activity (CAAA) mission statement: To receive, store, ship, produce, renovate and demilitarize conventional ammunition, missiles and related components to meet contingency requirements in support of the warfighter.
Duties
Provide intra-station transportation and handling services of ammunition, explosives, and hazardous materials between storage and production areas by means of gasoline- or diesel-powered trucks and tractor trailers.
Transport materials handling equipment {MHE), construction equipment. and general cargo.
Assist in snow-removal operations.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles and must possess and maintain installation driving privileges.
- Position requires a valid state Class A Commercial Drivers License and must be able to obtain HAZMAT endorsement.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter.
- This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter.
- This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain an Explosives certification without restrictions.
- This position is subject to the provisions of the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban commonly referred to as the Lautenberg Amendment.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
Qualifications
This position is a TERM NTE 2 years with provisions to extend up to 6 years, cannot be made permanent without further competition.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Motor Vehicle Operator without more than normal supervision. Applicants must meet the screen out elements to be considered further. To meet the screen out elements applicants should document experience in the following: Operate materials handling equipment (MHE) to assist in loading and unloading cargo; Operate gasoline- or diesel-powered trucks and tractor trailers for pickup and delivery of various items such as cargo, explosives, ordnance, and hazardous materials (HAZMAT).
Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
PHYSICAL EFFORT: Nature of work requires lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 40lbs and heavier items with assistance from others and/or lifting devices. Performs work while sitting, standing, bending, reaching, stretching, and climbing. Works from heights on truck beds, trailers, docks, and pieces of construction equipment.
WORK CONDITIONS: Work is performed in all weather conditions both indoors and out. Operates in all types of traffic and weather and is exposed to the possibility of serious accidents. Subject to cuts, bruises, and broken bones as a result of accidents while driving or loading or unloading cargo and explosives. There is potential for slips and falls when working on or around construction equipment, docks, truck beds, and trailers. Additional hazards and responsibilities are encountered when working around explosives and crane operations.
