This position is part of the National Archives and Records Administration;Agency Services;Federal Records Centers Program;and works under the supervision of a supervisor or higher-graded technician experienced in the tasks associated with the incumbent's position. Incumbent serves as an Archives Technician performing various duties related to the delivery, transfer, reference, and accessioning/disposition of records, and provides assistance to agency customers.
Duties
As an ARCHIVES TECHNICIAN, you will:
Provide reference service by searching for records in various filing systems that are either cross-indexed or readily identified; and, refile or interfile records in various filing systems such as alphabetic, numeric, terminal digit, case file number, action date, etc.
Perform various duties related to the acceptance of incoming transfers of Federal records.
Use the Archives and Records Centers Information System (ARCIS) to assign newly received transfers to electronic staging areas or individual shelf locations.
Oversee lower-graded employees in the proper placement of new transfers and in the proper relocation of records in staging areas or on physical shelving; coordinate crews and equipment, organize and distribute work, and conduct quality checks to ensure proper placement.
Review the ARCIS database to ensure accuracy and conformity of entries and makes basic corrections. Participate in the conduct of studies to develop or revise automated data processing and other related systems to achieve the most economical and efficient system for preserving, referencing, processing, and storing very large collections of records covering a wide range of subject matter and types of activities.
Qualifications
You must meet the following requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement.
Specialized Experience for the GS-05 grade level is defined as one year of experience at the GS-04 grade level, or equivalent, that is typically in or related to the position and which equipped the candidate with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position. Specialized experience for this position is defined as experience:
Operating office automation programs for maintaining database information;
AND
Reviewing files or documents for completeness and compliance with established guidelines;
AND
Responding to customer inquiries, verbally or in writing.
OR
You may substitute education for specialized experience as follows: 4 years above high school
OR
You may qualify by a combination of experience and education.
NOTE: Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience.
For the GS-04 grade level, you must have one year of general experience which includes progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled.
OR
2 years of education above high school.
OR
Combination of general experience and education.
This position requires candidates to pass a physical abilities test designed to measure candidates' ability to perform the physical requirements of the job. The test requires carrying 30-pound boxes like those found on the job. It also requires bending, squatting, and walking to reach the boxes in addition to climbing and balancing on a pulpit ladder up to 15 feet high.
In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following time-in-grade requirement, if applicable:
Advancement to positions up to GS-5: Candidates may be advanced without time restriction to positions up to GS-05 if the position to be filled is no more than two grades above the lowest grade the employee held within the preceding 52 weeks under his or her latest non-temporary competitive appointment.

Education Requirements: The education generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
