About the Position: Serves as Range Control Technician, assigned to the Range Operations, Fort Huachuca USAG, DPTMS, Training Division.
Duties
Serves as a Range Technician for all ranges, training facilities, and training lands on Fort Huachuca.
Performs Pre and Post Operations Checks.
Provide demonstrations of range capabilities, target set-up and sequencing to achieve customer requests for particular scenarios and training outcomes.
Conducts Range Opening/During/Closing Inspections, using Range Operations Check List for individual ranges or training facilities and all documentation unique to the particular range or training area.
Assists with the operations of the Range Control Fire Desk, reviews unit certifications, and risk assessments.
Assists in instructing the Range Certification class.
May assist, as necessary in order to ensure uninterrupted range operations, the unit Maintenance Worker in performing a variety of maintenance and minor repair of range equipment and facilities.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Temporary Duty Travel (TDY) will be required up to 5% of the time.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid government driver's License.
- Position requires heavy lifting up to 50 pounds.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes assisting with coordinating and/or scheduling range training activities; assisting with monitoring live fire range activities to ensure safety compliance; and operating range telecommunication equipment to transmit appropriate information to users. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).

Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as Occupational Safety.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages.
