Duties

Perform Pre and Post Operations Checks. Provide demonstrations of range capabilities, target set-up and sequencing to achieve customer requests for particular scenarios and training outcomes. Conduct Range Opening/During/Closing Inspections, using Range Operations Check List for individual ranges or training facilities and all documentation unique to the particular range or training area. Assist with the operations of the Range Control Fire Desk, reviews unit certifications, and risk assessments. Assist in instructing the Range Certification class. May assist, as necessary in order to ensure uninterrupted range operations, the unit Maintenance Worker in performing a variety of maintenance and minor repair of range equipment and facilities.

Requirements

  • Term Appointment NTE - Position may be filled as a term appointment NTE 3 years. Term appointments may be extended beyond six (6) years, up to eight (8) years with DoD approval.
  • Term employment is subject to a one-year trial period. Employees serving a trial period can be removed with limited appeal rights.
  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Temporary Duty Travel (TDY) will be required up to 5% of the time.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid Government Driver's License.
  • Position requires heavy lifting up to 50 pounds.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes assisting with coordinating and/or scheduling range training activities; assisting with monitoring live fire range activities to ensure safety compliance; and operating range telecommunication equipment to transmit appropriate information to users. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-06). All applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade and specialized experience requirements within thirty (30) days after the closing date of the announcements.
