You will serve as a FIREFIGHTER in the Navy Fire & Emergency Services of COMMANDER NAVY REGION MARIANAS. A Cost-of-Living-Allowance (COLA) of 12.25% will be added to the stated salary

Duties

You will assist fire fighter crews engaged in structural firefighting and rescue operations. You will assist in reducing and/or eliminating potential fire hazards. You will assist in performing structural firefighting duties for a variety of facilities that may include research and/or large industrial complexes. You will assist and participate in controlling and extinguishing fires by operating hoses, ladders, and hydrants. You will assist in performing Basic Life Support tasks. You will assist in the operation of firefighting vehicles, such as pumpers and aerial ladder trucks. You will assist in performing hazard and risk assessment and conduct incident analysis.

  • This is an overseas position. You will be subject to and must be able to satisfy the overseas requirements of the 26Jul12 DODI 1400.25 V1230: http://www.esd.whs.mil/Portals/54/Documents/DD/issuances/140025/140025v1230.pdf
  • This position may require travel to places within and outside the contiguous United States which could include remote or isolated sites. You may be required to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • If eligible for permanent change of station, the appointee will be required to sign a transportation agreement to establish a Government time in service requirement of 12 months.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Passport.
  • May be required to obtain a VISA dependent on the overseas country's laws/regulations.
  • You will be required to sign the Statement of Understanding for Overseas Employment acknowledging receipt and understanding of the statement of living and working conditions for this location.
  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
  • GS-04 ONLY-You will be required to obtain and maintain a current FIREFIGHTER I certification by the Department of Defense (DoD), International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) or ProBoard.
  • GS-04 ONLY-You will be required to obtain and maintain a current HAZARDOUS MATERIAL AWARENESS certification by the Department of Defense (DoD), International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) or ProBoard.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.

Qualifications

GS-04 Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-03) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing most or all of the following duties: 1) controlling and extinguishing fires; 2) operating hose lines and other fire control/suppression equipment; and 3) assisting in rescue operations. GS-03 Your resume must demonstrate at least least six months of general work experience or military service that demonstrates my ability to follow directions and to read, understand, and retain a variety of instructions, regulations, and procedures and that otherwise demonstrates my ability to perform or learn to perform the duties of the position. Education

Applicants may also qualify based on education OR a combination of education and experience, in lieu of the one year specialized experience listed above, through one of the following:
For GS-04:- 2 years above high school with related course work
OR
- A combination of education and experience that equates to one year of experience. The percentage of the required education plus my percentage of the required experience equal one hundred percent.
For GS-03:- 1 year of related education or training
OR
- A combination of education and experience that equates to one year of experience. The percentage of the required education plus my percentage of the required experience equal one hundred percent. OR- Successfully completed firefighter training that was obtained as part of a high school curriculum
