The position provides assistance to the Chief, Radiology Service and the Assistant Chief Radiology Service who directs the largest Radiology Service in the Veterans Hospitals. The Service is divided into 5 sections Fluoroscopy, Cat Scan, MRI, Mammography and Special Procedures.
Duties
Duties include but are not limited to :
Schedules appointments and makes commitments for the Chief and Assistant Chief to Attend conferences, etc., without prior approval
Handles any conflict in the scheduling of appointments
Assembles background material and sees that the Chief and/or Assistant Chief are fully brief on matters to be considered before a scheduled meeting.
Makes arrangements for conferences to take notes or is briefed on meetings immediately after they take place in order to know what commitments have been made and what developments have occurred in matters of concern to supervisor or subordinates.
Responsible for duplication and distribution of handout material.
Serves as one of 3 timekeepers for the service
Personally handles requests for information from the staff and answers substantive questions not requiring medical or technical knowledge.
Makes all necessary arrangements for travel, including scheduling of visits, hotel reservations, airlines reservations, etc.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 7am-3:30pm

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 09/21/2023.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
You may qualify based on your experience as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to:
Performs clerical duties assigned using MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint as word processing programs.
Develop and maintain a filing system for information and systematically prepares material.
Provide customer service by listening to their requests, questions or compliant, answer appropriate questions, provides information, gives guidance and initiates actions as appropriate
Maintain, and prepares worksheet tracking all proficiency ratings, performance evaluations, peer reviews, pay for performance and competency reviews.
Performs database management.
Preferred Experience : 2 years as a secretary or administrative assistant.

Physical Requirements: The work is primarily sedentary involving but does involve some bending, stooping, reaching, lifting of light items, and walking. Considerable time is spent sitting utilizing a computer for typing/word processing.
