This position performs as a secretary in the office of the Network Director for the Veterans Integrated Service Network (VISN8). This position is the principle official clerical support position for the Network Office. They perform general office work auxiliary to the work of the organization; additionally provides back-up support in the absence of administrative support staff.
Duties
This position will be assigned to the Office of the Network Director, VA Medical Center, VISN 8 Network Office providing administrative and support functions for Network Director operations.
Duties include, but may not be limited to the following:
Assigns materials and correspondence to appropriate group using judgment.
Composes letters and reports.
Maintains files of correspondence and events needing leadership intervention.
Takes meeting minutes/notes for all executive meetings.
Uses Microsoft Applications for daily duties.
Prepares travel arrangements and orders for Executive staff.
Refers and contacts members of the public as required.
Maintains purchasing records and items.
Responds to inquires concerning policies and procedures.
Promotion Potential: The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm
Telework: Ad-hoc as determined by the agency.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 10/03/2024.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-08 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-07. For a GS-09 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-08. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
You may qualify based on your experience as described below:
Specialized Experience GS-08: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-07 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to:
Reviews all types of correspondence for action.
Maintains purchasing records and items.
Proficient in using Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)
Contacts customers (members of the public, employees, elected officials, etc.) as needed and refers them to the correct individual.
Responds to inquires concerning polices and procedures. OR,
Specialized Experience GS-9: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-8 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to:
Assigns materials and correspondence to appropriate group.
Reviews documents and makes edits for spelling, grammar etc.
Advises leadership on important issues.
Provides findings and other significant items to leadership attention.
Screens all incoming electronic publications, directives and periodicals.

Physical Requirements: The work of this position is primarily sedentary. You may be required to walk or stand for periods of time to attend meetings, or other functions throughout the facility.

Education
There is no educational substitution at the GS-08 or GS-09 grade levels.
