Organizational Location: This position is with the Department of Homeland Security, within U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Trade (OT), Trade Regulatory Audit (TRA) Headquarters.
Duties
This position starts at a salary of $112,015.00 (GS-13, Step 1) to $145,617.00 (GS-13, Step 10) with promotion potential to $145,617.00 (GS-13 Step 10).
Planning and directing the design and presentation of visual products for use on social media and in publications and presentations throughout Trade Regulatory Audit;
Researching and coordinating with counterparts within DHS component agencies, other federal agencies, and private sector organizations in order to generate creative concepts for and to produce superior visual products;
Providing authoritative advice in coordinating the design and development of electronic and print publishing products.
Developing media formats and procedures for disseminating management and organizational concepts related to Trade Regulatory Audit programs.
Creating templates and clip art for staff members in Trade Regulatory Audit headquarters and field office, to enable them to easily create their own visual products, if they so desire.
Qualifications
Individual Occupational Requirements: Applicants who meet the Individual Occupational Requirements described below are fully qualified for the specified entry grade and must also meet the specialized experience and/or education requirements.
Undergraduate and Graduate Education: Major study- commercial art, fine arts, art history, industrial design, architecture, drafting, interior design, photography, visual communication, or other fields related to the position. Some positions may also require subject-matter knowledge of medicine, science, or technical equipment.
Advanced training in a vocational school, technical institute, or art institute above the high school level in one of the fields listed above is creditable as general experience on a month-for-month basis.
OR
Specialized Experience: One-year experience in the actual type of work for which application is made. Unpaid experience is creditable, provided the work done was of a quality level and demonstrated the ability required for the position. This includes planning the preparation and use of photographs, illustrations, drawings, and other artwork, charts, diagrams, dioramas, maps, slides, overlays, and other kinds of visual material for use in communicating information through visual means.
In addition to meeting the above Individual Occupational Requirement (IOR) AND Time-In-Grade Requirement, applicants must also meet the following specialized experience of the position.
Experience: You qualify for the GS-13 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as:
Presenting visual products and media for communication, graphic art production, visual information design, publication design, social media and web page design;
Creating infographics, handouts, charts, graphs, maps, digital photographs, and web pages for display or reproduction purposes;
Utilizing sophisticated electronic imaging equipment and while designing and editing digital video, sound, and photo files.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Residency: There is a residency requirement for all applicants not currently employed by CBP. Individuals are required to have physically resided in the United States or its protectorates (as declared under international law) for at least three of the last five years. If you do not meet the residency requirement and you have been physically located in a foreign location for more than two of the last five years, you may request an exception to determine if you are eligible for a residency waiver by meeting one or more of the following conditions:
Working for the U.S. Government as a federal civilian or as a member of the military
A dependent who was authorized to accompany a federal civilian or member of the military who was working for the U.S. government
Participation in a study abroad program sponsored by a U.S. affiliated college or university
Working as a contractor, intern, consultant or volunteer supporting the U.S. government
Probationary Period: All employees new to the federal government must serve a one year probationary period during the first year of his/her initial permanent federal appointment to determine fitness for continued employment. Current and former federal employees may be required to serve or complete a probationary period.
