About the Position: This is a Health Technician (Audiology) position located at the Brooke Army Medical Center, Department of surgery, Audiology Clinic. Work hours are 0730-1630 Monday - Friday.

Duties
Provide comprehensive audiologic testing to pediatric and adult patient populations.
Independently performs comprehensive audiologic testing procedures on patients with suspected diagnoses/conditions upon referral by a health care provider.
Assists audiologist in testing of children and others who require nontraditional test procedures by operating the instrumentation when necessary.
Provides detailed and appropriate counseling and referral of all patients seen.
Schedules appointments for hearing aid evaluations and other follow-up procedures.
Determine when amplification can improve the communication ability of hard of hearing patients and makes appropriate referral to Audiologist.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position has specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties require interaction with
children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) training and certification that is sponsored or endorsed by the American Heart Association (AHA).
- This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.
- This position is subject to screening and update of required immunizations unless exempted for medical or administrative reasons.
- This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include
testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- Incumbent assigned to this position may be designated as Mission Essential and assume Essential Personnel status during 'Inclement weather/emergencies.
- This position requires a valid state driver's license.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience at the GS-06 grade level which includes administering comprehensive hearing assessments, providing detailed counseling to patients; and maintaining patient office records and documentation utilizing automated databases.

Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Audiology.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
