This position is located in the Immigrant and Employee Rights Section (IER). As the Equal Opportunity Specialist, you will conduct investigations and complete assignments for litigation to further enforcement of the anti-discrimination provision of the Immigration and Nationality Act ("INA"). You will also conduct outreach and complete policy-related assignments to educate the public about the anti-discrimination provision of the Immigration and Nationality Act.

Duties

The incumbent will serve as a Equal Opportunity Specialist. Duties include, but are not limited to: Identifying applicable legal principles and develops strategies for investigation, data collection, and analysis. Extensive knowledge of investigative techniques and applicable law to make recommendations regarding the disposition of investigations, including appropriate remedies and/or civil penalties. Giving outreach presentations to employer/employee audiences on the anti-discrimination provision of INA.. Collecting relevant testimonial and documentary evidence, including interviewing charging parties, potential witnesses, and respondent's officials and employees.

Specialized Experience Requirements For the GS-12: I have one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service. Planning and/or conducting investigations of alleged civil rights violations, including employment discrimination (such as under Title VII, the Immigration and Nationality Act's anti-discrimination provision, the ADA, or the ADEA), or other civil rights and/or workplace violations; AND Documenting findings and preparing recommendations and correspondence; AND Relaying information to the public (such as through hotlines, public speaking, and/or conducting trainings). For the GS-13: I have one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service. Planning and/or conducting investigations of alleged civil rights violations, including employment discrimination (such as under Title VII, the Immigration and Nationality Act's anti-discrimination provision, the ADA, or the ADEA), or other civil rights and/or workplace violations; AND Documenting findings and preparing recommendations and correspondence; AND Relaying information to the public (such as through hotlines, public speaking, and/or conducting trainings); AND Interviewing charging parties, and other witnesses to obtain evidence relevant to the allegations of discrimination. In order to be rated as qualified for this position, we must be able to determine that you meet the specialized experience requirement - please be sure to include this information in your resume. To be creditable, this experience must have been equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade of the position to be filled. Specialized experience is defined as experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position and is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): A Subject-Matter-Expert (SME) will evaluate your qualifications on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, and abilities in the following areas. Please do not submit a separate written response. Demonstrated relevant expertise on the Immigration and Nationality Act's (INA's) anti-discrimination provision, or other anti-discrimination laws. Demonstrated ability to make supported enforcement recommendations based on investigations. Demonstrated ability to handle hotline calls.
