Duties
Serves as Work Leader by identifying, distributing, and balancing workload and tasks to team members in accordance with established workflow, and assures timely accomplishment of the assigned workload.
Provides individual and team training in specific tasks and job techniques, and provides on-the-job training in accordance with established procedures and practices.
Researches and resolves routine and non-routine prevalidation issues (e.g., coordinates with other areas to identify the root cause of prevalidation errors during the current month and determines the corrective action to be taken).
Responds to routine and non-routine questions from customers regarding accounting data, discrepancies, and procedures.
Prepares correspondence responding to inquiries of a routine and non-routine nature explaining various aspects of accounting and providing detailed and technical explanations of accounting discrepancies or procedural and reporting requirements.
Researches current accounts, historical data, source documents, etc., to develop and explain detailed information not otherwise readily available.

- Time after Competitive Appointment: Candidates must have served 3 months after latest competitive appointment in the Federal service.

Qualifications
One year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of the next lower grade (GS-05 for GS-06 level) within the federal service, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position, is required.
For GS-06: Specialized experience at the GS-05 grade level is defined as: validating, monitoring and maintaining accounting transactions and accounting records; entering accounting data into an automated financial system to process a wide variety of account transactions; identifying and researching discrepancies in account transactions and making adjustments; reconciling entitlement systems and/or feeder systems with accounting systems to ensure transactions are recorded accurately; researching discrepancies and making adjustments.
GS-06 Time-in-Grade: Current or former federal employees who have held a GS position in the preceding 52 weeks, must meet the time in grade requirement. To be considered for the GS-06, applicants must have served 52 weeks as a GS-05 or higher grade in Federal Service.
Education
GS-06 Substitution of Education for Experience: Six months of graduate education may be substituted to meet the specialized experience required when it is directly related to the work of the position being filled.
